Volleyball Loses First Conference Match at Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team fell 0-3 at Southern Nazarene (21-25, 24-26, 10-25) in Great American Conference action.  The match was the second of four league matches for ECU this week and the first conference loss of the season.

The Tigers (4-11, 2-1 GAC) were paced by juniors Kaci Harrison and Alex Campbell.  Harrison tallied 10 kills and nine digs, while Campbell added 10 kills.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish, with no team leading by more than three points before seeing the set tied back up again.  The teams battled through 11 tie scores before the Crimson Storm (8-5, 4-1 GAC) took the final lead after an 18-all tie.  SNU pushed ahead 18-20 and, despite trading the rest of the points, hung on for the 21-25 win.

The teams continued the battle into set two, as they fought through eight tie scores and traded runs, with no team taking more than a three-point advantage until late in the set.  The final tie came at 17, when the Crimson Storm made a big push and increased the lead to four (17-21).  The Tigers kept fighting and tied the set at 24, after holding off four set points.  However, SNU made a final push and took the set 24-26.

After the intermission, the Crimson Storm came out strong, taking a 1-9 lead.  ECU continued to fight through the set, but the deficit was too much to overcome and they fell 10-25.

The Tigers will now come back to the Kerr Activities Center to host Northwestern (Sept. 29) and Southwestern (Oct. 1) to finish out the four-match week.  The match against the Rangers is set for 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29, while the battle with the Bulldogs will be Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.
