BETHANY, OKLA. – In the final road match of the 2017 season, the East Central University soccer team fell to Southern Nazarene 3-2 in Great American Conference action.
The Tigers (5-6-4, 2-3-4 GAC) and the Crimson Storm (4-11, 2-7 GAC) played a tight match, with ECU leads in overall shots (23-20) and SNU leading in shots on goal (11-8).
The Tigers saw goals by sophomores
Lizette Carreon and
Jordyn Gibbs, while Gibbs led the team with four shots on goal. Junior
Chloe Hull garnered eight saves.
The Crimson Storm took the lead early, scoring their first goal at 8:25. SNU then added a second goal at 19:58 to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
The final goal by the Crimson Storm was then tallied at 64:38 in the second half on a penalty kick.
ECU then tried to mount a come-back, scoring two goals in 10 minutes. Carreon got the Tigers on the board at 75:49, while Gibbs added the second goal at 85:23. However, ECU was not able to get the equalizer and fell 3-2.
The Tigers will now get ready for the final three regular-season games at Tiger Field. The stretch will start, Thursday, Oct. 26 when ECU hosts Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m.
