Volleyball Falls in Four Sets at Cameron

LAWTON, OKLA. – In a reverse of the outcome from the match earlier this season in Ada, the East Central University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (20-25, 18-25, 25-14, 25-27) match to Cameron in non-conference action on the road.

The Tigers (4-14) were led by senior Alex Campbell, with 14 kills, three digs and two block assists.  Senior Madeline Mayer added nine kills and four (1-3) blocks.  Senior Diana Etienne was one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 18 digs.

The opening set was a back and forth battle, with seven tie scores and three lead changes.  The final tie came at 18-all, when the Aggies used a 3-0 run to take the lead for good.  ECU kept fighting, but were unable to get closer than two points before falling 25-20.

The teams traded points and runs in the opening eight serves, but the Aggies took control of the set with a 6-0 run (10-4).  Despite a few small runs by ECU, Camron took the set 25-18.

The Tigers fell behind early in set three (3-0), but fought back to tie the game at eight.  That is when they took control of the set, going on a 6-1 run for a 14-9 lead.  ECU kept pushing the tempo and took the set 25-14.

The teams again started a battle for control in set four, with nine ties and four lead changes.  This time it took until a 12-all tie for a team to take control.  ECU used a 4-1 run to gain the advantage and hold on to it tilt h end of the set.  The Tigers built the lead to as many as five, but the Aggies used a 7-1 run to take a 24-23 lead.  The teams then battled into extra points, with Cameron fighting its way to the 27-25 win.

The Tigers will now return home to the Kerr Activities Center for two Great American Conference matches over the weekend.  ECU will first host Arkansas Tech, Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m., before welcoming Harding, Saturday, Oct. 7 (10 a.m.) for the annual Pink Out! match.
