Volleyball Falls in Four to Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-27, 25-14) decision to Southern Nazarene in Great American Conference road action.

The Tigers (7-21, 2-11 GAC) were led by senior Taylor Turner, who earned her first double-double of the season with 30 assists and 10 digs.  Junior Karina Erreguin led the offense with 11 kills and three blocks, while senior Lily Porsa garnered 27 digs.

The Crimson Storm (12-15, 7-6 GAC) jumped out to an early 6-2 advantage in the opening set, but the Tigers fought back to take a 7-6 lead with a 5-0 run.  The teams then battled through five ties until ECU took a three-point lead (14-11).  However, SNU countered with an 8-0 run of their own to regain the lead and push through for the 25-17 win.

The second set was a tight battle at the beginning, with no team having more than a two-point lead.  That is until the Crimson Storm went on a 4-0 run to gain a 15-10 advantage.  SNU held a four to five-point lead until late in the set when the Tigers fought back to tie the set at 23.  The teams then traded the next two serves before ECU pulled together for the final two points need for the 26-24 win.

After trading the first few serves, the Tigers took the momentum they had started in set two to earn a 9-5 lead in the third set.  SNU was able to fight back within two several times during the set, but that was as close as they could get closer until late in the set.

After ECU was leading 20-16, the Crimson Storm used a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to one (20-19).  The teams traded the next eight serves before SNU tied the set at 24 and forced extra points and earn the 27-25 win.

The fourth set started out close, but after a four-all tie, the Crimson Strom went on a 5-0 run to gain the advantage for good.  SNU kept pushing the tempo of the set before winning 25-14.

ECU will remain on the road for a match at Southwestern Oklahoma State, Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
