Men’s Basketball Drops Non-Conference Game at Cameron

LAWTON, OKLA. – The East Central University men's basketball team fell 67-59 to Cameron in final regular-season non-conference game of the 2017-18 season.

The Tigers (5-3) were led by sophomore Camron Talley, with 13 points, two rebounds and a steal.  Junior Jamey Woods added 11 points and seven boards, while junior Da'Rion King led the team with 13 rebounds.

The Aggies (5-8) jumped out to an early 12-4 advantage in the first five minutes.  However, both teams then went cold and didn't score for the next four minutes, when a free throw by senior Brett Cannon broke the stalemate.  ECU was able to cut the deficit to four (12-8) in the next 30 seconds.

Cameron then kept the lead around 3-7 points until the final 4:30 of the half.  That is when ECU pushed back and was able to tie the game at 23 on an 8-2 run, with 1:47 left in the stanza.  However, the Aggies scored the final five points of the half to take a 28-23 lead into the locker room.

Cameron pushed the lead to double-digits in the first four minutes of the second half, before a 7-0 run by the Tigers over the next three minutes cut the deficit to seven (39-32).  The Aggies kept the lead between 6-10 points until the final six minutes.

That is when ECU tried another come-back, but this time they were only able to cut the deficit to two (53-51).  The lead was quickly built back up, to as many as nine in the final minutes of the game, with Cameron earning the 67-59 victory.

The Tigers will now get ready to head home for two Great American Conference games at the Kerr Activities Center.  ECU will host Henderson State, Thursday, Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m. and then Ouachita, Saturday, Jan. 6 at 3 p.m.
