ADA – The East Central University baseball team will play its first games at Ken Turner Field in 2017, with a double-header set for Saturday, Feb. 11 against Central Oklahoma starting at noon. The Tigers (0-4) will then make the trip to Edmond, Okla., the next day for a double-header starting at 1 p.m. at UCO.
ECU started the season 0-4, including a tight 5-6, 12-inning loss, to No. 6 Lubbock Christian in the opening game of the season at the D2 Air Hog Classic.
The Tigers were led by senior
JT Stevenson, who hit .600, with three hits and three RBIs. Stevenson added a .950 fielding percentage, with 17 putouts and two assisted outs.
ECU sent a total of seven pitchers to the mound, with juniors
Shae Edmonds and
Brandon Dusenberry seeing the most action. Edmonds played in 10 innings, allowed eight hits and four runs, while striking out 11. Dusenberry added 11 innings, eight hits and four runs and seven Ks.
The Bronchos are 3-1 on the season after dropping their first game Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Southwestern (2-3). UCO started the season with two wins at Arkansas-Monticello (2-1/4-3) and then picked up a 20-2 win over Southern Nazarene at home (2/7).
The Bronchos have one starter hitting over .400 on the year. Jon Kamies has a .429 batting average, three runs, six hits, an RBI, 27 putouts, and a 100 percent fielding percentage.
Of the 14 pitchers who have seen action, only three have thrown over four innings. Holden Capps is the leader in the smaller group, with a 1-0 record, 0.00 ERA, five innings of work, four hits and one run allowed, four strikeouts and a .211 opponent batting average.
The Tigers and UCO have met on 53 previous occasions, with ECU trailing 12-41 in the all-time series, dating back to 1999. The teams have not played each other since 2012, when the Tigers claimed victories in all three meetings over a home-and-home weekend. ECU has won the last four meetings and has a 7-18 record at home and 5-23 mark on the road.
