Baseball Falls in Series Finale to Northwestern

ADA – The East Central University baseball team fell in the series finale to Northwestern Oklahoma State, 6-11, at Ken Turner Field.  The Tigers (7-13, 6-6 GAC) finish the series 2-1 after winning the doubleheader the day before.

ECU was paced by senior Kaleb Matthews, with two hits and a run scored.  Junior Connor Stevenson led the team with two RBIs, while adding a hit and a run.

Senior Dylan Sanchez started the game on the mound, throwing the first four innings.  He allowed seven hits and six runs while striking out five.

The Tigers were the first to get on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead after the first inning.  Redshirt junior Josh Reeves and Matthews both singled, advanced on a pass ball and Reeves scored on a wild pitch.
It took the Rangers (8-15, 3-9 GAC) until the third to get started, but they tallied three runs for the 1-3 advantage.

ECU cut the deficit to one (2-3) in the bottom of the third.  Connor Stevenson reached due to an error, Matthews singled, junior Wesley Carswell was hit by a pitch and junior Dalton Etheredge earned the RBI with a single up the middle.

However, that is when NWOSU took over for good, scoring two runs in the fourth, three in fifth, and one in the sixth, seventh and eighth for a 2-11 advantage.

The Tigers tried to mount a come-back in the bottom of the ninth, but fell short with just four runs and a 6-11 final.  Senior Trevor Huie started the inning by drawing a walk and senior Jake MeKeel and junior JT Stevenson were hit by pitches to load the bases.

The first run then scored on a wild pitch before Connor Stevenson sent two runs home with a double to left center.  The final run came again on a wild pitch.

ECU will now get ready for their final non-conference game of the regular-season when they welcome Bacone to Ken Turner Field at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 11.
