Baseball Set to Host Ouachita

Junior Kade Hayes
ADA – The East Central University baseball team will wrap up its Spring Break at home with a three-game Great American Conference series against Ouachita Baptist at Ken Turner Field.  A single game is set for Friday, March 17 at 2 p.m. and a double-header for Saturday, March 18 at noon.

The Tigers come into the series with a 7-13 overall record and a 6-6 mark in the league after going 2-1 against Northwestern and picking up a non-conference win last week.

In the last four games, ECU has led by junior Connor Stevenson, with a .538 average, seven hits, six runs, three doubles, a home run and nine RBIs.  He was one of four players to hit over .400 in the games, with the Tigers combining for a .308 team average and allowing just a .254 mark.

Senior Jake MeKeel added a .471 average, eight hits, seven runs and a RBI, while junior Dalton Etheredge hit .455, with five hits, two runs and four RBIs.

All 12 pitchers on the ECU staff saw action between the four games, with senior Jake Wellington, junior Shae Edmonds and sophomore Garrett Dimmitt all picking up wins.  Wellington and Edmonds combined for a shutout against NWOSU, with 7.0 innings of work, five hits and no runs allowed and nine strikeouts.

In two games, Edmonds threw 4.2 innings, allowed three hits and no runs, while striking out two.  Dimmitt threw the first two innings against Bacone, with two hits and no runs allowed, with a strikeout.

The league's other Tigers are 5-18 overall and 3-9 against conference opponents, after falling in their last nine outings.

As a team, Ouachita is hitting .263 and allowing just a .287 mark by the opposition.  There is just one player on the team hitting over .400 on the year, with three more over .300.  Kyle Alexander leads the group with a .409 average, 27 hits, nine runs and 13 RBIs.

Ouachita has 12 pitchers on staff with three having thrown over 30 innings.  Adam Bahoul has seen the most action with 39.0 innings, a 4.15 ERA, 2-3 record, 37 hits and 22 runs allowed and 29 strikeouts.

ECU leads the all-time series against Ouachita, with a 10-15 record, a 4-8 mark in league play and 4-7 when playing at home.  Last year, the Tigers went 2-1 in Arkadelphia.  The last time the teams have played in Ada was in 2013, as the 2015 series was cancelled due to weather.
