Baseball Set to Host Arkansas Tech

Senior Jake MeKeel
ADA – After a week on the road, the East Central University baseball team returns to Ken Turner Field to host Arkansas Tech for a three-game Great American Conference series, March 31 and April 1.  A double-header is slated for Friday, March 31 at noon and a single game Saturday, April 1 at noon.

The Tigers are 9-17 overall and 8-10 in the league after going 1-2 last weekend at Henderson State.  ECU was held to a .191 team batting average and allowed a .235 mark in the series.

Senior Jake MeKeel led the Tigers with a .400 average, four hits, two runs and two RBIs.  Junior Dalton Etheredge added a .375 average, three hits and a run.

Junior Shae Edmonds picked up the win on the mound, closing out the final game of the series.  Edmonds threw 4.1 innings, allowed four hits and zero runs and struck out two.

The Wonder Boys are 18-12 overall and 14-4 in the GAC after going 2-1 against Oklahoma Baptist at home last weekend.  ATU will face Harding, in a non-conference game, Wednesday on the road before heading to Ada.

As a team, the Wonder Boys have a .263 batting average and allow a .248 mark by the opposition.  Dylan McDearmon leads the team with a .329 average, 28 hits, 22 runs and 16 RBIs.  Zach Klockowski is the team's leader in sending runs across the plate, with 30 RBIs.  Klockowski adds 34 hits and 16 runs with a .324 batting average.

The Tigers and ATU have played 37 previous games, with ECU trialing 14-23 in the series overall, 3-11 when playing as GAC opponents and 4-11 in Ada.  Last year the series was played on the road, with the Wonder Boys earning two of the three wins.

The last time the series was supposed to be played at home was in 2015, but the first day was rained out and the double-header was moved to a neutral site, where ATU picked up both wins.
