ADA – The East Central University baseball team dropped two decisions in a doubleheader against Arkansas Tech at Ken Turner Field. The Tigers (9-19, 8-12 GAC) first fell 7-11 in the nine-inning game and then dropped a 2-10 decision in the seven-inning game.
ECU was led by senior
JT Stevenson, who earned a .800 batting average, four hits, two runs and two RBIs. Senior
Kodiak O'Ravez added a .571 average, four hits, two runs and an RBI.
Junior
Brandon Dusenberry led the pitching staff, throwing 5.2 innings of game two and recording four strikeouts.
The Great American Conference series will wrap up, Saturday, April 1 with a single game slated to start at 12 p.m.
ATU 11, ECU 7
The Wonder Boys (20-13, 16-4 GAC) got on the scoreboard early, taking a 0-3 lead after the first inning in game one.
The Tigers responded in the bottom of the second inning, tallying seven hits and five runs for the 5-3 advantage. Junior
Dalton Etheredge started things off with a single up the middle and was followed on base with singles from
JT Stevenson and senior
Trevor Huie to load the bases.
After the first out, sophomore
Zach Lewis started the scoring with a single to center. The next run was scored on a single through the left side by senior
Kodiak O'Ravez and senior
Jake MeKeel added two RBIs with a single to left. The final run came across the plate when senior
Kaleb Matthews singled.
The score remained in favor of ECU until the fourth inning, when ATU earned the lead after a three-hit; three run inning (5-6). The Wonder Boys added three more runs in the fifth for the 5-9 advantage.
The Tigers cut into the deficit in the sixth, with two runs on three hits. O'Ravez led off with a single, Matthews singled and Etheredge was walked to load the bases between the first two outs.
JT Stevenson then earned the two RBIs with a single through the left side for the 7-9 score.
The Wonder Boys added to the pressure with two runs in the top of the ninth that pushed the lead back to 7-11.
ECU got two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, but was unable to get a run across the plate.
ATU 10, ECU 2
The second game was a defense battle for the first four innings. Both teams got runners on base, but were not able to get any runs across the plate.
That was until the top of fifth inning when the Wonder Boys took control, scoring three runs. ATU added four more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh for the 0-10 advantage.
The Tigers were finally able to get the goose egg off the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh. Redshirt junior
Josh Reeves started the inning with a double off the left field wall.
JT Stevenson was added to the base path by drawing a walk. Junior
Jacob Cowling advanced the runners to second and third with a ground out, setting up Lewis to earn an RBI on a sacrifice fly to right.
