ADA – The East Central University baseball team is set to play its second-to-last series of the year at Ken Turner Field, April 13-14 when they host Oklahoma Baptist. The teams will play a single game Thursday, April 13 at 3 p.m. and a double-header is set for 1 p.m., Friday, April 14.
The Tigers are 9-23 overall and 8-16 in the Great American Conference after falling in three games at Harding last weekend. Senior
Kaleb Matthews had a strong weekend at the plate, hitting .444, with four hits, a double, triple, home run and four RBIs.
Junior
Brandon Dusenberry threw a complete game, allowing three hits and two runs (none earned) and struck out 10 in the seven-inning game of the series.
The Bison come into the games with a 23-15 overall record, including a 14-10 mark in the league after going 1-2 last weekend against Southwestern and dropping a mid-week game against the University of Science and Arts.
OBU has combined for a .301 batting average and allowed a .234 mark by the opposition, with six players hitting .300 or better on the year. Brett Berghammer leads the team with a .368 average, 32 runs 53 hits and 28 RBIs. Zane Gelphman adds a .361 average, 52 hits, 28 runs and a team-best 44 RBIs.
The Bison have a nine-member pitching staff, with six throwing over 30 innings and three over 45. Jinny Para has seen the most action with 62.2 innings of work. Parra has allowed 51 hits and 23 runs, struck out 67 and has a 6-3 record and 2.51 ERA.
Since 2009, the teams have met on 16 occasions, with ECU trailing 4-12 in the series overall and 0-6 at home. However, when playing as GAC opponents the Tigers have a 2-1 advantage.
