Baseball Set For Final Home Weekend

ADA – The East Central University baseball team will play the final games of the 2017 regular season at Ken Turner Field, April 28-29 against arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State.  A double header is set for Friday, April 28 at noon and a single game Saturday, April 29 at noon, with Senior Day activities to open the day.

The Tigers will honor their eight seniors: Kodiak O'Ravez, Trevor Huie, Kaleb Matthews, Dylan Sanchez, JT Stevenson, Jake Wellington, Josh Reeves and Jake MeKeel.

ECU is 10-28 overall and 9-21 in the Great American Conference heading into the weekend, currently ranking ninth in the GAC standings.  The Tigers are just two games behind Ouachita Baptist (11-19 GAC), with both teams battling for the final spot in the 2017 GAC Championship Tournament.

ECU went 1-2 last weekend at Southern Nazarene.  O'Ravez and Huie led the team with a .500 average over the weekend.  O'Ravez tallied five hits and four runs, while Huie netted two hits and an RBI.  MeKeel added a .462 average, six hits, four runs and four RBIs.

Junior Brandon Dusenberry picked up the win on the mound, throwing a complete game and garnering six strikeouts.

The Savage Storm come into the weekend with a 15-26-1 overall record and a 12-16 mark in the league, placing them seventh in the standing after already clinching a spot in the tournament.

Brett Akins is the top producer for Southeastern, with a .311 average, 42 hits, 19 runs and 25 RBIs.  Hunter Harrison adds a .309 average, 43 hits, 27 runs and 30 RBIs.

While, the Savage Storm has a 12-member pitching staff, only two have thrown over 45 innings this season.  Hayden Grimes has seen the most time on the mound with 50.2 innings, recording 3-4 record and a 4.80 ERA.  He has allowed 33 runs and 64 hits, while striking out 34.

The all-time series with Southeastern (dating back to 1999) currently stands a 20-51 for the Tigers.  When playing at home the series stands at 12-30 at Ken Turner Field.
