ADA – The East Central University volleyball team fell in 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 16-25) in non-conference action to Fort Hays State at the Kerr Activities Center.
The Tigers (3-6) were paced by junior
Karina Erreguin, with nine kills, two digs, two block assists and a service ace. Senior
Madeline Mayer netted seven kills and seven (2-5) blocks, while senior
Lily Porsa led the team with nine digs.
The opening set was a tight battle, with several tie scores. FHSU (4-5) then took control late in the set, with a 3-0 run to push the lead out to three (20-17) and hold on for the 25-19 win.
The second set start out close again, with the teams battling though to a six-all tie. However, Fort Hays then used a 4-0 run to take control of the set. FHSU pushed ahead in the middle of the set, but the Tigers fought back to get within two (20-18), before eventually falling 25-21.
The teams were again tied at three in the third set, before Fort Hays pushed ahead with a 7-1 run to take control for good. That was all that FHSU would need and they kept pushing the momentum to earn the 25-16 win.
The Tigers will continue their busy week, with four matches in the GAC/MIAA Crossover, Sept. 15-16. ECU will face UCO (12 p.m.) and Southwest Baptist (4 p.m.) in Edmond, Okla., Friday and then battle Emporia State (12 p.m.) and Missouri Southern (6 p.m.) Saturday in Bethany, Okla.
