ADA – The East Central University volleyball team fought through a 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 20-25) to Southern Nazarene in Great American Conference action at the Kerr Activities Center.
The Tigers (4-13, 0-5 GAC) were paced by senior
Alex Campbell and freshman
Kachayla Upshaw. Campbell tallied 13 kills and 18 digs, while Upshaw added 10 kills, five digs and three block assists.
The first three sets were back and forth battles that all ended in 25-22 scores. In the first set the final tie came at 20-all, when the Crimson Storm (7-8, 2-1 GAC) went on a 3-0 run to take control of the set to earn the win.
The second set again saw the final tie at 20, but this time it was the Tigers that went on a 3-0 run to take control and claim the win.
The third set saw several lead changes, and this time the final tie came at 19-all. SNU then used a 4-0 run to push the lead to three. While ECU took the next two points, the Crimson Storm held on for the 25-22 win.
The fourth set saw a back-and-forth battle at the beginning of the set. However, the final tie was a nine-all, with SNU then using a 4-0 run to take control for good. The Crimson Storm built their lead out to as many as seven (20-13). The Tigers never gave up and used a 5-1 run to cut the disadvantage to three (23-20), but SNU earned the final two points for the 25-20 win.
ECU will now have the weekend off, before playing a non-conference match at Cameron (7 p.m.).
