ADA – The East Central University men's basketball team improved to 6-0 at home during the 2017-18 season and recorded their eighth-straight home victory, with an 87-66 win over Ouachita Baptist at the Kerr Activities Center.
The Tigers (7-3, 5-1 GAC) saw four players earn double-digit point totals, with two earning 21. Junior
Da'Rion King netted 21 points, seven boards and an assist, while sophomore
Camron Talley added 21 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals. Senior
Jeremiah Fleming added 14 points and junior
Gabe McKenzie tallied 10 as the other players in double-digits.
The game was close at the start, but ECU held an advantage from start to finish. After the first four minutes, ECU went on a 4-0 run over a two-minute span for a 12-6 lead. The other Tigers (5-7, 2-3 GAC) countered with a 5-0 run, but only got within one (12-11).
ECU then used a 15-2 run to gain a 27-13 lead, with 7:25 left to play. Ouachita never game up and used a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to cut the deficit to four (30-27). The game was even the rest of the stanza, with ECU heading to the locker room with a 34-29 advantage.
ECU came out of the locker room on fire, going on a 17-0 run to push the lead to 22 (51-29) in the first four minutes. ECU kept the advantage around 20 the rest of the game, leading by as many as 29 and never letting the lead drop below 17 on the way to an 87-66 victory.
The Tigers will now hit the road for an in-state game against rival Southwestern Oklahoma State, Thursday, Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Weatherford, Okla.
