Late Drought Sinks Men’s Basketball at Pittsburg State

PITTSBURG, KAN. – After holding the lead for half of the game, a late drought handed the East Central University men's basketball team a 92-84 loss at Pittsburg State in non-conference action.

Scoring
  • First Half: 47-41
    • The teams traded the lead several times in the first half
    • Largest lead by either team was five
      • PSU, 22-17 (11:05)
    • With 11 minutes left, the Gorillas (4-1) held on to the lead
    • The Tigers (2-2) keeping it close, but could only cut the deficit to one
      • ECU took a brief (29-28) lead, with seven minutes left
    • ECU kept fighting and tied the game at 34, with just under five minutes left
    • The Tigers used a 9-4 run (5:17-2:16) to take a 42-37 lead
    • PSU cut the deficit to three (44-41), with 51 seconds left
    • ECU ended the remaining time with a 3-0 run
  • Second Half: 37-51
    • ECU kept the pressure on at the start of the second half
      • 4-0 run in the first minute (51-41)
    • The Gorillas fought back over the next four minutes to cut the lead to three (55-52)
    • The Tigers then took control, with a 10- 5 run over the next two minutes
    • PSU fought back, but could not get closer than four until 7:33 remained
      • Cut the deficit to one (72-71)
      • Used a 5-0 run over 1:30 minutes
    • The Gorillas kept pushing and tied the game a 78, with 5:08 left
    • PSU then took the lead for the first time since 3:38 remained in the first half
      • 79-78 (4:24)
    • The Gorillas then used a 9-1 run to take the lead for good (87-80)
