Women’s Basketball Defeats Northeastern in Season Opener

TAHLEQUAH, OKLA. – The East Central University women's basketball team earned its first season-opening victory since 2013-14, with a 57-39 victory at Northeastern State in the first game of the Great American Classic/Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association Crossover.

Scoring
  • First Quarter: 12-8
    • The teams traded triples at the start of the quarter
    • The Tigers (1-0) then went on a 6-1 run in a six-minute span to take a 9-4 lead
    • The RiverHawks (0-1) finished the last 1:30 with a 4-3 run
  • Second Quarter: 15-2
    • ECU scored 13-unanswered points through the first 9:30 minutes of the quarter
    • Only allowed to score two points, with 0:08 left, on free throws
  • Third Quarter: 8-14
    • NSU opened the quarter on an 8-0 run, cut the deficit to 27-18
    • ECU fought back with a 6-0 run to push the lead back to 15 (33-18)
    • The RiverHawks score two quick points
    • Both teams struggled to score the rest of the quarter, with just seven points scored
  • Fourth Quarter: 15-22
    • Teams traded the first few shots
    • The Tigers then went on a 10-2 run before allowing a field goal by NSU
    • ECU pushed the lead out to as many as 21 points (52-31)
