ADA – The East Central University baseball team will open the Great American Conference portion of the 2018 season,
Feb. 18-19 at Arkansas-Monticello. The teams are set to play a double-header, Sunday, Feb. 18 at starting at 12 p.m. and a single game is slated for Monday, Feb. 19 at 12 p.m.
The Tigers went 0-3 last weekend at Central Oklahoma. ECU was led by juniors
Yan-Eric Tremblay and
Tag Sparks at the plate, with both earning .500 averages. Tremblay garnered three hits, a run and two RBIs, while Sparks added a hit in a single game.
Tremblay was also part of an eight-member pitching staff for the weekend, striking out two. Junior
Alec Lemmon added seven strikeouts, while junior
Chris Sanchez netted six.
The Boll Weevils are 4-2 on the season, winning their last two games against Christian Brothers. UAM has a team batting average of .350 on the season and is allowing a .244 mark. While they have recorded 22 more hits (62-40), they have only tallied 10 more runs (45-35) than the opposition this year.
The Boll Weevils have five players hitting over .400 for the season, with Hunter Bell and Austin Brakebaill both earning a .571 average. Bell has four hits, two runs and four RBIs, while Brakebaill has tallied four hits and three runs.
UAM has seen 12 players hit the mound this season, with just one throwing over 10 innings. Michael Harrison has played in 12.0 innings, recorded a 2-0 record and six strikeouts, while allowing four hits and three runs.
This is the second-straight season that ECU will open the conference portion of the season against the Boll Weevils. Last year, the Tigers went 2-1 at home, with senior
Connor Stevenson netting five hits, five runs and five RBIs in the series.
UAM's top returner at the plate is Sean Wagner, with four runs, six hits and two RBIs. Braden Chambers threw 5.1 innings in the game that the Boll Weevils won a year ago. Chambers allowed five hits and three runs, while recording five strikeouts.
The Tigers now trail in the all-time series 8-11. ECU is 7-10 when playing UAM as league opponents and 0-6 when playing on the road.
