MONTICELLO, ARK – The East Central University baseball team fell in both games of a double-header at Arkansas-Monticello to complete the first Great American Conference series of the 2018 season, with a 0-3 record. The Tigers (1-9, 0-3 GAC) first suffered a 9-6 loss in the nine inning game and then fell 11-0 in the seven inning outing.
ECU was led at the plate by sophomore
Ryan White, who it .400 on the day, with two hits a run and an RBI. Freshman
Garrett Oldham and seniors
Bryce Dimitroff and
Connor Stevenson also added two hits each.
Junior
Chris Sanchez started the first game of the day and threw 7.2 innings. He allowed nine hits and seven runs and struck out seven.
The Tigers will now get ready for the first home series of the 2018 season, Feb. 23-24 at Ken Turner Field against Southern Arkansas.
UAM 9, ECU 6
The Boll Weevils (7-2, 3-0 GAC) started the scoring, earning three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first.
The Tigers responded immediately, with three runs on their own in the second. Junior
Yan-Eric Tremblay started the inning reaching due to an error and advanced to second with the next play. Oldham earned the first RBI when he singled. White followed with a single and junior
Josh Lincoln was walked to load the bases.
Junior
Marcus Sonnier then reached on a fielder's choice that allowed the second run to score. The final run come across when Dimitroff doubled and tied the game at three.
UAM was the next to score, getting a single run in the bottom of the third for a 4-3 advantage. The teams then held each other scoreless for the next two innings.
In the top of the sixth the Tigers took a 5-3 lead. White was walked and sent to second on a sacrifice bunt before he stole third. That allowed White to score when Sonnier reached on an error and advanced to third with a wild pitch. The final run was scored when sophomore
Dakota Washington singled through the right side.
UAM tied things up in the bottom of the inning, with a single run and the teams each earned a run in the seventh to keep things tied at six. Tremblay was walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He was then able to score when White doubled for ECU's run in the seventh.
The Boll Weevils regained a 9-6 lead in the bottom of the eighth after scoring three runs.
UAM 11, ECU 0
The second game of the day was controlled by UAM from the start. The Boll Weevils scored six runs in the first inning for the early advantage.
UAM kept up the defensive pressure on the Tigers, not allowing a single run to score in the game and only allowing two hits.
The Boll Weevils added a run in the fifth and four in the sixth for the 11-0 final.
