MELISSA, TEXAS – The East Central University baseball team lost in the first two games of the Great American Conference series with Southern Arkansas at the Melissa Sports Facility. The Tigers (1-11, 0-5 GAC) fell 10-4 in the opening game and then 6-1 in the night-cap.
ECU was led by junior
Josh Lincoln, who tallied a .600 average, three hits and a run. Sophomore Cale Riding added a .500 average, with one hit and one run in one game.
Junior
Logan Lannon threw a complete seven-inning game in the second game of the day, allowing 11 hits, six runs and striking out seven. Junior
Alec Lemmon suffered the loss in 6.0 innings in the opening game of the day, with seven hits and six runs allowed and recording five Ks.
The teams will wrap up the three-game series, Monday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. at the Melissa Sports Facility.
SAU 10, ECU 4
The Muleriders (9-4, 4-1 GAC) started the scoring in the top of the first, netting two runs. However, the Tigers countered with three runs to take a 3-2 advantage.
Senior
Bryce Dimitroff and Ridling started the inning with singles and were then sent around when senior
Connor Stevenson hit a home run to right field.
SAU added two runs in the second to regain a 4-3 lead. The Tigers then tied the game at four in the bottom of the inning.
Lincoln drew a lead-off walk and was sent to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior
Tag Sparks. That put him in scoring position when freshman
Garrett Oldham singled.
However, that was the end of the scoring for the Tigers. ECU kept the Muleriders scoreless through the fourth inning, but then gave up a run in the fifth and sixth and four in the ninth for the 10-4 final.
SAU 6, ECU 1
SAU got on the board first in the second game of the day, scoring a single run in the top of the first. However, the Tigers tied the game at one in the bottom of the inning when junior
Marcus Sonnier hit a home run to left center.
The teams kept the score knotted at one until the fourth inning when the Muleriders took a 3-1 lead with two runs. SAU then added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 6-1 final.
