ADA – The East Central University baseball team prepares for the final games of the 2018 regular season at arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State, April 27-28 in Durant, Okla. The teams will play a single game, Friday, April 27 at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday, April 28 starting at 1 p.m.
The Tigers (5-34, 4-25 GAC) had a strong final weekend at home in 2018, going 2-0 against Southern Nazarene, marking the first Great American Conference series sweep of the year.
Junior
Alec Lemmon has a strong showing on the mound and was named the GAC Pitcher of the Week. Lemmon threw a complete-game shutout in the 4-0 win. The Wichita Falls, Texas, native allowed just two hits and record a season-high 11 strikeouts, netting a .100 opponent batting average.
Sophomore
Cale Ridling helped lead ECU at the plate, recording a .600 batting average, two runs and four RBIs. Of his six hits, the Texarkana, Ark., native had two doubles and a triple.
The Savage Storm come into the series with a 19-23 overall record and a 14-15 mark in the conference. Southeastern is one of four teams that have a shot at the final spot in the GAC Tournament.
Austin Ferguson and Brett Akins lead the Savage Storm with a .349 average. Ferguson has 53 hits, 29 runs, six doubles, two home runs and 23 RBIs. Akins adds 52 hits, 36 runs, eight doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 31 RBIs.
Cody Nitson has seen the most time on the mound, with 76.1 innings of work, starting in 12 games. He has a 4-3 record, two complete games, allowed 77 hits and 45 runs, while striking out 62.
The teams played once as non-conference opponents earlier this season on the road, moving the all-time series to 53-21 in favor of Southeastern. When playing as GAC opponents the Savage Storm lead 49-19 and 24-8 when playing in Durant, Okla.
