ECU Sees 100 Student-Athletes Earn Spring Academic Honors

ADA, OKLA. – East Central University Athletics again had a strong showing on the Great American Conference Spring All-Academic Team and the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Awards for the 2017-18 season.

The Tigers led the conference on the D2ADA honors list with 37 of the 105 members from the GAC.  ECU also placed 31 on the Spring GAC All-Academic Team, while 27 were named to the Fall GAC All-Academic Team for 58 student-athletes honored for the 2017-18 season.

To be eligible for academic honors, student-athletes much have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and be a sophomore academically and athletically.

Among the teams the Tigers softball and soccer teams led the way with eight with academic honors.  The baseball team saw seven, men's cross country/track & field netted six, women's cross country/track & field five, volleyball and football each had four, women's basketball three and men's basketball one.

ECU's academic success also included 60 student-athletes being named to the Spring ECU Dean's List (3.33-3.99 GAC), 40 on the ECU Spring President's List (4.00 GPA).

Overall the student-athlete GPA was a 2.84 for the spring semester, with five teams earning a 3.00 or better.  Softball led the athletic department with a 3.44 team GPA, women's soccer a 3.42, women's basketball a 3.27, men's basketball a 3.22 and women's cross country/track & field a 3.00.
