SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The East Central University volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a pair of 3-0 loss in the first day of the Kathleen Bransfield Invitational hosted by Angelo State. The Tigers (0-2) first fell to Arkansas-Fort Smith (25-18, 25-11, 25-10) and then to St. Mary's (25-19, 25-22, 25-23).
Arkansas-Fort Smith Match Highlights
- Set One: ECU kept the set close until half way through (trailing 17-14)
- UAFS then went on a 9-3 run to earn the 25-18 win
- Set Two: The Lions took an early lead and kept pushing through to a 25-11 win
- Set Three: UAFS again took an early advantage and held on for a 25-10 victory

- Senior Karina Erreguin led the team with five kills and six digs
- UASF was receiving votes in the AVCA.org Preseason Coaches' Poll
St. Mary's Match Highlights
- Set One: The opening was close, but St. Mary's used a 6-0 run to take control
- ECU fought back to 16-20, but fell 19-25
- Set Two: The Rattlers took an early lead and the Tigers again fought back with in one (17-18 before falling 22-25
- Set Three: ECU took its first lead of the day, 3-0
- St. Mary's fought back to regain the lead, but the set remained close
- The Tigers tied the set at 22 and 23, but then fell 23-25
Notables
- Erreguin led ECU with 10 kills and three digs
- Senior Abbey Wehrman tallied 19 digs
- Sophomore Sydney Dunged earned 25 assists, five digs, two blocks and a service ace
