Women’s Basketball Comes From Behind for Seventh-Straight Victory

MONTICELLO, ARK. -  The East Central University women's basketball team came roaring back after trailing at half-time to claim a 76-67 victory at Arkansas-Monticello.

Scoring
  • First Quarter:22-20        
    • ECU started the game with a 6-0 run, in the first minute
    • UAM would cut the lead to as little two, but the Tigers (11-3, 6-2 GAC) would build the lead back
    • With 3:30 left the Cotton Blossoms (4-9, 3-5 GAC) went on a 7-0 run to take a brief 18-17 lead
    • ECU took the lead back and held it through the remaining two minutes
  • Second Quarter: 10-19 (32-39)
    • The Tigers scored the first shot of the quarter for a 24-20 advantage
    • The Cotton Blossoms then went on a 9-0 run to take a 29-24 lead (5:42)
    • Over the next three minutes UAM was able to build the lead to nine (35-26)
    • ECU kept fighting, but could not get closer to five in the final minutes
  • Third Quarter: 21-14 (53-53)
    • In the first four minutes, the Tigers started with a 5-2 run, to cut the deficit to one (42-43)
    • UAM went on a quick 5-0 run to push the lead to 42-48
    • With four minutes remaining in the stanza ECU turned up the tempo
      • The Tigers went on a 6-0 run in a 1:30 span to take the lead back, 51-48
      • Included to back-to-back steals that resulted in layups
    • The Cotton Blossoms whould not back down
      • Tied the game at 51, with 47 seconds remaining
      • The teams traded points for a 53-all tie, with 8.7 seconds left
  • Fourth Quarter: 23-14
    • No scoring until UAM hit one-of-two free throws and then added a jumper for a 56-53 lead, with eight minutes left
    • The Tigers then went on an 9-0 run for a 64-56 advantage, with just under five minutes left to play
    • ECU kept the advantage between 5-9 points the rest of the stanza

  • ECU trailed by seven at the half (32-39), but out-scored the Cotton Blossoms 44-28 in the second half to claim the win

  • The Tigers also took advantage of their 13 offensive rebounds
    • Scored 14 second-chance points
  • ECU saw four plyers recorded double-digit point totals
  • Rehl also account for half of the teams steals, with a career-high five steals
  • The Tigers allowed UAM to score just one field goal (3pt) in the final five minutes
