Volleyball Wraps Up Opening Weekend of 2019

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The East Central University volleyball team wrapped up the Gorilla Classic and the opening weekend of the 2019 season with 3-1 (21-25, 28-26, 18-25, ??-25) loss to Western Colorado University.

Scoring
  • Set One: L, 21-25
    • The match was tight from the start
      • No team lead by more than two points until late in the set
      • 12 tie scores, nine lead changes
  • Set Two: W, 28-26
    • The Tigers (0-4) jump out to an early 3-0 advantage and kept up the pressure
    • Led by as many as six (10-4)
    • The Mountaineers (1-2) fought back and tied the set at 14
    • The teams then traded the next four serves before WCU starting a 3-0 run to take the lead (19-16)
    • The Mountaineers kept the lead around three for the next few points
    • ECU then started a 4-0 run to tie the set at 23 and take a 24-23 lead
    • The set was forced into extra points before the Tigers claimed the win
      • ECU was within one point of the win after an attack error by WCU
      • Set-point came on a service ace by So. Taylor Greenameyer
    • Six tie scores, four lead changes
  • Set Three: L, 18-25
    • The Mountaineers pushed through for an early 7-2 advantage
    • The Tigers were only able to get as close as three the rest of the set
  • Set Four: L, 15-25
    • WCU took an early 3-0 lead
    • The Mountaineers kept up the pressure and increased the lead to as many as nine
