Women’s Basketball Defeats Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The East Central University women's basketball team snapped an eight-game losing streak by defeating Ouachita Baptist 78-71, the final opponent from the Great American Conference that they had not faced in 2019-20.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 17-18
    • The Tigers (4-14, 2-10 GAC) opened the game on a 9-2 run in the first 4 minutes
    • Ouachita (4-13, 1-11 GAC) then went on a 5-0 run in the next 30 seconds
    • The teams traded small runs through the rest of the stanza
      • OUA claimed the final run at 7-0 in the last 1:10
  • 2nd Quarter: 17-12 (34-30)
    • OUA continued the run to 10-0 in the first 30 seconds, for a 21-17 lead
    • ECU followed with an 8-4 run to tie the game at 25, with 6:13 left on the clock
    • The teams traded the next two shots for a tie at 27
    • The Tigers then added a 5-1 run for the next 2:30 minutes to hold a 6-point advantage
    • OUA scored the final bucket of the half to cut the deficit to 4
  • 3rd Quarter: 17-20 (51-50)
    • In the first 3 minutes both teams went on a 4-0 run
    • ECU then hit a three for a 41-34 advantage
      • Both teams went cold for the next 2 minutes
    • OUA followed with a 5-0 run in the next 2 minutes to cut the deficit to 2 (41-39)
    • The teams traded small runs before OUA went on a 5-0 run to take a 47-45 lead, with 1:47 remaining
    • OUA kept pushing and forced at tie at 48 and 50, in the final 45 seconds
    • The Tigers got a free throw with 19 seconds left to end the scoring for the quarter
  • 4th Quarter: 27-21 (78-71)
    • OUA was able to get the first shot to go in the final stanza to take a 52-51 lead in the first 15 seconds
    • ECU followed with a 12-0 run over the next 3 minutes to earn an 11-point lead
    • OUA followed with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 4 (65-61), with 5 minutes left to play
    • The teams then traded shots for the rest of the stanza with the Tigers holding onto a lead between 2-7 points
      • ECU took advantage of trips to the free throw line in the final seconds to increase the lead
