Men’s Basketball Starts Weekend at Arkansas-Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ark. – After a triple-overtime victory at the Kerr Activities Center over the University of Arkansas-Monticello earlier this season, the East Central University men's basketball team fell 84-79 to UAM on the road.

Scoring
  • 1st Half: 33-34
    • The teams traded small runs through the first six minutes before the Boll Weevils (19-9, 11-8 GAC) used a 3-0 run to tie the game at 9
    • UAM continued to push the tempo of the game and the run extended to 14-0 through the next five minutes
    • The Tigers (16-9, 10-9 GAC) countered with an 11-4 run over the next four minutes to decrease the deficit to five (20-25)
    • ECU kept up the pressure and used another 13-4 run to gain the advantage over the next five minutes (33-29)
    • The Boll Weevils finished the stanza on a 5-0 run to take a one-point lead into the locker room
  • 2nd Half: 46-50 (79-84)
    • UAM continued to run to 9-0 in the first 1:30 minutes of the stanza to push the lead back to 39-34
    • Over the next 1:30 minutes the Tigers fought back within one (39-38)
    • The teams traded small runs over the next few minutes with no team leading by more than three points
    • With 8 minutes remaining the game was tied at 58
      • ECU followed with a 7-2 run to earn a 65-60 lead, with 6:30 minutes remaining
    • The Boll Weevils responded with a 6-0 run of their own over the next minute to gain a 66-65 advantage
    • In the next 30 seconds, ECU pulled ahead by four (70-66)
    • The Tigers held on to the lead over the next two minutes
    • UAM then started a 9-0 run, until under a minute remained to take a 79-73 lead
    • ECU then got back within two after four free throws from So. Tylor Arnold in the next 30 seconds
      • The Boll Weevils also missed two free throws in the span
    • Both teams were then forced to foul to try and slow down the scoring
      • UAM kept the advantage on their side of the scoreboard by making 5-of-6 free throws and only allowing the Tigers to go 2-of-2
