Men’s Basketball Falls in Overtime at Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – For the fifth time this season, the East Central University men's basketball could not get a decision in regulation, falling 76-75 at Southern Arkansas in overtime.

Scoring
  • 1st Half: 22-32
    • The Muleriders (13-13, 10-10 GAC) started the game on a 4-0 run in the first minute
    • The teams then traded shots, with the Tigers (16-10, 10-10 GAC) trailing between 2-5 points
      • Very low scoring half, with several spans with no scoring
    • With 15 minutes left, SAU went on a 9-2 run over the next five minutes to push the lead to 9 (19-10)
    • ECU hit one shot in the next minute before another Mulerider run pushed the lead to 15
      • 8-0 over the next five minutes (27-12)
    • The teams traded shots over the next few minutes, with SAU keeping the lead around 15 (29-14)
    • Over the next two minutes the Tigers went on a 6-1 run to get within 10
    • Both teams hit shots over the remaining time
  • 2nd Half: 46-36 (68-68)
    • ECU started the stanza on a 12-1 run in the first four minutes to take a 34-33 advantage
    • The Muleriders followed with a 10-0 run in the next three minutes to regain a 43-34 lead
    • Over the next four minutes the Tigers used a 22-6 run to gain a 7-point advantage (56-49)
    • ECU kept the lead around five for the next four minutes
    • SAU then used a 5-0 run to tie the game at 60, with 2:23 left on the clock
    • The teams traded shots through the rest of the time to force the extra stanza
  • OT: 7-8 (75-76)
    • The Muleriders hit the first shot, with a triple, with 3:14 remaining
    • The Tigers followed with a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to push the lead to four (75-71)
    • SAU then took control and got within one in the next 20 seconds
    • ECU missed a chance to score and so did the Muleriders in the next 45 seconds
    • However, a Tiger turnover, with 5 seconds left gave SAU the chance to get the lead
      • Hit a jumper with 2 seconds on the clock
      • ECU missed its chance to win the game on a last second shot
