Women’s Basketball Holds off Late Surge by Bison

SHAWNEE, Okla. –The East Central University women's basketball team held off a fourth-quarter surge by Oklahoma Baptist to claim a 57-50 victory at the Noble Complex.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 11-7
    • The Bison (0-4, 0-4 GAC) scored the first two points at the charity stripe, a minute in
    • The Tigers (2-1, 2-1 GAC) then went on an 8-0 run over the next four minutes, before allowing OBU to score a basket
    • Both teams scored (ECU – 3 / OBU – 2) in the next 30 seconds before going cold for the next 3:30 minutes
    • The Bison were the only ones to score the rest of the stanza, earning a layup and free throw
  • 2nd Quarter: 21-14 (32-21)
    • OBU continued to push and took a 15-14 lead, with 7:30 left in the quarter
    • The Bison held a one-point lead for the next 1:30 minutes
    • ECU then went on a 6-0 run, over the next two minutes, to regain the advantage (22-17)
    • The Tigers continued to push and added a 10-4 run through the rest of the stanza to increase the lead to 11
  • 3rd Quarter: 12-9 (44-30)
    • Scoring was slow at the start of the half, with both teams scoring just two points each in the first 2:15
    • Neither team got on the scoreboard for the next two minutes
    • ECU held the Bison to just two points that were not at the free-throw line during the stanza
  • 4th Quarter:  13-20 (57-50)
    • OBU started the quarter with a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to 10 (47-37), with 6 minutes left on the clock
    • The Tigers kept the advantage around 10 for the next two minutes
    • The Bison then went on a 9-0 run to get within three (53-50) over the next 2:30 minutes
    • ECU fought back and used a 5-0 run in the final 1:30 minutes to earn the win
