Volleyball Wins Marathon Battle at Arkansas Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The East Central University volleyball team moved its record-setting winning-streak to seven matches, with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 26-24, 25-23) tight victory at Arkansas-Monticello.

Scoring
  • Set 1: 25-27
    • 7 Tie Scores / 4 Lead Changes
    • No team led by more than six points throughout the set
    • The Tigers (10-9, 6-1 GAC) took an early 11-5 advantage
    • The Cotton Blossoms (7-11, 2-5 GAC) followed with a 9-1 run to take a 14-12 lead
    • ECU quickly tied the set at 16 and the teams traded serves thorough a 25-25 tie, to force extra points
    • UAM followed with the next two points to claim the win
  • Set 2: 25-22
    • 3 Tie Scores / 2 Lead Changes
    • The Cotton Blossoms took a 3-0 lead at the opening of the set
    • The Tigers kept pushing and kept things close
    • The push resulted in a tie at 11
    • The teams then traded 4-0 runs and serves for a tie at 16
    • ECU then pulled ahead by two (18-16)
    • The Tigers kept the lead for the next two serves before a 5-0 run gave UAM a 22-19 advantage
    • ECU followed with a 6-0 run to take the set
  • Set 3: 26-24
    • 12 Tie Scores / 5 Lead Changes
    • No team led by more than two throughout the set, until a late push by the Tigers
    • ECU used a 3-0 run to gain a 4-point lead
    • The Cotton Blossoms followed with an 8-3 run to gain a 24-23 lead
    • The Tigers then used a 3-0 run to get the needed advantage to win the set
  • Set 4: 25-23
    • 6 Tie Scores / 3 Lead Changes
    • The teams traded small runs and serves throughout the set
    • ECU used a 5-0 run in the middle of the set to take the largest advantage (4) of the set
    • UAM kept fighting and cut the deficit to one (23-22) late in the set
    • But it was not enough as the teams traded serves, but the Tigers were able to get the win in regulation
