Volleyball Falls in Back-and-Forth Battle with No. 23 Oklahoma Baptist

ADA, Okla. – For the fourth time this season the East Central University volleyball team took a team to five sets at the Kerr Activities Center, falling to No. 23 Oklahoma Baptist 3-2 (25-27, 29-27, 21-25, 25-15, 15-8).

Scoring
  • Set 1: 27-25
    • 19 Tie Scores / 5 Lead Changes
    • The opening set was a back-and-forth battle from the start
      • No team took a lead more than two points the entire set
    • The Tigers (13-12, 9-4 GAC) trailed 21-23 late in the set
    • ECU then used a 3-0 run to take a 24-23 advantage
    • But the Bison (18-3, 11-2 GAC) tied the set quickly and forced extra points
    • The Tigers were finally able to get the final two-straight points to end the set
  • Set 2: 27-29
    • 15 Tie Score / 5 Lead Changes
    • The battled resumed in set two, with no team leading by more than two until the middle of the set
    • ECU was the first to break the stalemate, using a 5-0 run for a 19-14 lead
    • OBU slowly crept back in and tied the set at 24, with a 3-0 run
    • This time the extra-point battle when in favor of the Bison
  • Set 3: 25-21
    • 10 Tie Scores / 7 Lead Changes
    • OBU took an early 5-1 advantage
    • The Tigers swung the momentum back in their favor, with a 5-0 run, to force the toggling scoreboard again
    • ECU again used a 5-0 run to take a 19-14 lead
    • This time the Tigers kept up the pressure and held on for the win
  • Set 4: 15-25
    • The Bison took control right from the start, with a 6-1 run
    • OBU quickly pushed the lead to 10 (16-6) and held it there for the rest of the set
  • Set 5: 8-15
    • The teams traded the first four serves
    • The Bison then took control, using a 5-0 run to gain a 7-2 advantage
    • OBU did not let the Tigers score more than one point at a time the rest of the match
