Women’s Basketball Falls to Texas A&M-Kingsville

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The East Central University women's basketball team had its three-game winning streak to start the 2021-22 season come to an end in the final game of the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic.  The Tigers (3-1) dropped a 73-68 decision to Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 16-15
    • ECU opened the game on a 7-2 run in the first four minutes
    • The Javelinas (4-2) slowly fought back during the stanza and knotted the game at 13, with two minutes left
    • The teams traded shots in the rest of the time
  • 2nd Quarter: 14-11 (30-26)
    • The Tigers started the quarter on a 14-3 run to push the lead to 12 (30-18)
    • TAMK then took control of the game and used an 8-0 run in the final six minutes to get back within four
  • 3rd Quarter: 22-23 (52-49)
    • The teams traded shots and small runs throughout the stanza, but ECU held the advantage all the way through
  • 4th Quarter: 16-24 (68-73)
    • The Javelinas used a 4-0 run in the opening minute to gain the lead (53-52)
    • The battle resumed with no team leading by more than one possession
    • Game was knotted at 62, with four minutes remaining
    • TAMK followed with a 7-1 run in the next two minutes to push their lead to six (69-63)
    • ECU refused to give up and got within two (70-68), with 10 seconds left on the clock
    • The Javelinas then made the most of their trips to the free-throw line to secure the victory
