Women’s Basketball Plays First GAC Game of 2021-22 Season

BETHANY, Okla. – The East Central University women's basketball team opened the Great American Conference portion of the 2021-22 season at Southern Nazarene, falling 68-56 at the Sawyer Center.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 16-18
    • Both teams hit a three in the first minute
    • Neither team then scored 2:30 minutes
    • After a tie at six (5:34), the Crimson Storm (6-2, 1-0 GAC) used an 8-2 run to gain the advantage
    • The Tigers (3-2, 0-1 GAC) fought back, but were not able to get closer than two the rest of the stanza
  • 2nd Quarter: 16-28 (32-36)
    • ECU switched the tables at the start of the second quarter, going on a 9-2 run to take a 25-20 advantage
    • The Tigers pushed the lead to six (28-22), with 6:50 left in the half
    • SNU then made their push, using a 14-4 run in the remainder of the quarter to hold the lead at the break
  • 3rd Quarter: 14-23 (46-59)
    • The Crimson Storm came out ready to push in the second half
      • Used a 7-0 run in the first three minutes to increase the lead to eight (43-32)
    • SNU continued to push the tempo and increased the lead to as many as 13
  • 4th Quarter: 10-9 (56-68)
    • The final quarter was all about defense, with just 19 combined points
    • But the close battle was not enough for ECU to overcome the deficit
