Volleyball Starts Season at Kathleen Brasfield Invitational

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The East Central University volleyball team started the 2021 season with two matches at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational, hosted by Angelo State.  The Tigers (0-2) fell to the host Belles 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-20) and then 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 2517, 25-9) to Anderson (S.C.).

Scoring
  • Set 1: 15-25
    • ASU started the set on a 4-0 run
    • ECU was not allowed to get closer than three points the rest of the set
  • Set 2: 18-25
    • The Belles (1-0) again jumped out to an early advantage, 6-1
    • The Tigers fought back with in one (5-6), but that was as close as they would get
    • ASU kept the lead around 4-6 points the rest of the set
  • Set 3: 20-25
    • The Belles jumped out to a 5-0 lead and didn't let ECU get close until the end of the set
    • The Tigers trailed 21-15, before a 3-0 run got them within three (18-21)

Scoring
  • Set 1: 20-25
    • ECU earned a 4-0 advantage at the start
    • AU slowly cut away at the disadvantage and got within one (14-13)
    • The Trojans kept pushing despite the Tigers gaining a 20-17 lead
    • AU then used an 8-0 run to take the set
  • Set 2: 25-19
    • ECU earned a 7-1 advantage at the start of the set
    • The Trojans pushed back within two (9-7)
    • ECU then pushed back and used a 13-4 run to gain a 22-11 lead
  • Set 3: 17-25
    • The teams traded the first four serves
    • AU then took the lead and helped on for the rest of the set
    • The Trojans took control for good with a 5-0 run to push out to a 24-15 advantage
  • Set 4: 9-25
    • After AU earned the first two points, the Tigers used a 5-0 run to take the lead
    • The Trojans followed with an 11-2 run to take control of the set
