Volleyball Wraps Up Kathleen Brasfield Invitational

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The East Central University volleyball team finished up the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational, hosted by Angelo State University, with two four-set matches.  The Tigers (0-4) first dropped a 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17) decision to Texas A&M-Kingsville and then a 3-1 (16-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19) loss to Western Colorado.

Scoring
  • Set 1: 24-26
    • ECU took the first two points, but the set was quickly tied at 2
    • The teams battled through ties to 5, 7, and 10
    • ECU pushed ahead (14-10) and held it to 18-17
    • TAMUK then fought to tie the set at 21
    • There were ties at 23 and 24 before the Javelinas (4-0) got the two needed points to claim the win
  • Set 2: 25-21
    • The teams were tied through the first six serves
    • The Tigers then pushed out to a 6-3 lead
    • TAMUK pushed back and tied the set at 8 and 9
    • ECU again gained the advantage, with a 6-0 run (15-9)
    • The Javelinas slowly fought back and tied the set at 18 and 19
    • The Tigers then took control for good, with a 3-0 run (22-19)
    • ECU never let TAMUK get closer than two the rest of the set
  • Set 3: 21-25
    • Both teams battled through ties to 4 and 5
    • The Tigers then pulled ahead, with a 7-1 run (12-6)
    • The Javelinas against fought back and tied the set at 15 and 16
    • TAMKU then took control of the set for good, with a 4-0 run (20-16)
  • Set 4: 17-25
    • The teams traded the first four serves
    • The Javelinas then went ahead, with a 3-0 run
    • The Tigers got back within one (4-5)
    • TAMKU kept the advantage around 2-3 until the middle of the set
    • The Javelinas then continued to push the lead to as many as nine

    • The Mountaineers (1-3) jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage
    • The Tigers fought back to tie the set at six and take a 10-6 lead
    • ECU kept pushing the tempo and increased the lead to as many as 11
  • Set 2: 18-25
    • The match was close at the start, with no team leading by more than two points
      • Tied at 1, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17
    • WCU then took control with a 4-0 run
  • Set 3: 19-25
    • The set was tight at the beginning, with ties at 2, 3, 6 and 7
    • The Tigers then fell behind 11-7
    • The Mountaineers kept the disadvantage around 3-4 points until late in the set
  • Set 4: 19-25
    • The set was a back and forth battle
      • ECU led early by as many as five (11-6) points
    • WCU came back and tied the set at 14 and 15
    • The Mountaineers then used a 6-1 run to take control for good
