Women’s Basketball Takes Out Other Tigers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – In the first matchup of the season between the East Central University Tigers and the Ouachita Baptist Tigers, ECU came out with the 70-59 victory in Great American Conference action.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 20-11
    • Ouachita (7-9, 5-7 GAC) opened the game on a 5-0 run, in the first 2:20
    • ECU (10-5, 7-4 GAC) followed with a 7-2 run in the next three minutes to tie the game at 7
    • ECU kept pressing the tempo and used a 13-4 run in the remaining time
  • 2nd Quarter: 15-18 (35-29)
    • Ouachita again came out with a run in the second stanza
      • This time used a 4-0 run in the first two minutes to cut the deficit to five (20-15)
    • ECU extended the lead back to 10 (25-15) in the next 1:30
    • Ouachita countered with another 5-0 run and the teams then traded points the rest of the quarter
  • 3rd Quarter: 16-17 (51-46)
    • The teams traded shots and small runs throughout the stanza
  • 4th Quarter: 19-13 (70-59)
    • Ouachita hit the last shot of the third quarter and extended it to a 6-2 run, in the first minute of the stanza, to cut the disadvantage to three (53-50)
    • ECU countered with an 11-1 run to regain a double-digit advantage, over the next five minutes    
      • Ouachita held to just one free throw (two attempts) during the span
    • Ouachita then took over the scoring, using a 7-0 run over a two-minute span to cut the deficit to five (64-59)
    • ECU then got their chances at the free-throw line and went 5-of-6 in the final minute and played strong defense, not letting Ouachita get an open shot
