Women’s Basketball Five-Game Winning Streak Ends

ADA, Okla. – After winning their last five games (dating back to Jan. 6, 2022), the East Central University saw its winning-streak come to and end against Arkansas Tech, the team that they lost to last.  The Tigers (10-6, 7-5 GAC) fell to the Golden Suns (10-7, 7-6 GAC) 79-71 at the Kerr Activities Center.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 23-21
    • ATU jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes
    • ECU fired back with a 7-0 run in the next minute to get within three
    • Things remained close throughout the stanza
    • In the final three minutes the Tigers were trailing 15-16 and used an 8-0 run in the remaining time to take the lead
  • 2nd Quarter: 15-17 (38-38)
    • ECU kept pushing and added an 8-1 run in the first three minutes to increase the lead to nine (31-22)
    • The Golden Suns slowly fought back and took a 34-31 lead with 2:45 left in the half
    • The Tigers regained a 38-36 advantage with a minute left
    • ATU then hit a buzzer beater to knot the game at 38
  • 3rd Quarter: 14-25 (52-63)
    • The Golden Suns started the half with a 5-0 run, in the first minute
    • ATU kept pushing and got the lead out to eight (42-50), with 6:30 minutes on the clock
    • ECU kept the deficit between 3-6 until the final 2:45
    • The Golden Suns then used a 6-0 run, in the remaining time, to push the lead to double-digits
  • 4th Quarter: 19-16 (71-79)
    • ATU kept the advantage around 10 for most of the stanza
    • ECU used several small runs to get within four (69-73), with a minute left on the clock
    • The Tigers could not get any closer in the time left
