Women’s Basketball Wins at Southern Arkansas with Last-Second Free Throws

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The East Central University women's basketball team picked up a key Great American Conference road game, 61-59, over Southern Arkansas in the final road game of the 2021-22 regular-season.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 17-19
    • The Muleriders (11-12, 6-11 GAC) went on an 8-0 run in the first two minutes
    • The Tigers (12-9, 9-8 GAC) followed with a 13-0 run, over the next 2:30 minutes to gain a 13-10 advantage
    • SAU added a 6-0 run in the next two minutes to regain the lead for the rest of the stanza
  • 2nd Quarter: 12-13 (39-32)
    • The Muleriders held the advantage throughout the stanza
      • Led by as many as 8 points
    • In the final 1:20 ECU went on a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to three
  • 3rd Quarter: 14-10 (43-42)
    • The entire quarter was a back-and-forth battle
    • The Tigers cut the disadvantage to one early and then neither team led by more than one the rest of the time
  • 4th Quarter: 18-17 (61-59)
    • SAU used a 5-0 run in the first two minutes to push the lead to four (47-43)
    • ECU kept fighting and tied the game at 49, with five minutes left to play
    • The teams then traded points the rest of the game, with four more tie scores
    • Final tie came at 59-all, with 1:05 remaining
    • Neither team could make a shot in the final minute
      • A foul by the Muleriders, with three-seconds left, gave the Tigers the chance to win the game
      • RSr. Madison Rehl went to the charity stripe and sank both shots to claim the victory
