Soccer Suffers Loss at Home

ADA, Okla. – The East Central University soccer team hosted Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Friday at Tiger Soccer Field, dropping a 4-0 decision to close out the 2023 season series with the Bulldogs.

While the Tigers (1-4-5 GAC) limited the Bulldogs (4-4-2) to just one goal and five shots on goal in their first meeting earlier this season, ECU eventually bent to the Bulldogs offensive attack this go around as SWOSU put 13 shots on goal compared to the three from ECU.

Despite the lack of shots from the Tigers, the home team held its own in the first half, showcasing their defensive skills as they kept the Bulldogs at bay with only one goal scored. But the match picked up in the second half with SWOSU getting multiple shots on goal that would allow them to break open the game for good.

SWOSU's first two goals of the day came off a pair of penalty kicks, one in the first half and the other in the second. With under 15 minutes of play, the Bulldogs would go on to add back-to-back goals just two minutes apart from each other, giving the Tigers little chance of clawing their way back in.

McKenna Leveling had a busy match, recording a season-high eight saves. Paige Jones, Olivia Witte, and Lorianne Baugh each recorded a shot on goal.

The ECU soccer team looks to rebound in its next GAC contest and last home game of the season when they take on Ouachita Baptist University on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 2 pm at Tiger Soccer Field.
