Women's Basketball Falls to SNU

ADA, Okla. – East Central University women's basketball hosted Southern Nazarene University for their second conference game of the season, with the Crimson Storm coming out on top 59-48 on Saturday afternoon at the Kerr Activities Center.

"I am very proud of our team for their effort and competitiveness to continue fighting," Head Coach Heather Hurt said. "Defensively we were pretty sound and did not give them many second-chance looks. Offensively, they pressured us out of offense and did not continue our screening action to make them guard us."

The Tigers picked up their most points in the fourth quarter but still only connected on 28.8% from the field overall while the Crimson Storm emphasized scoring inside, only converting four triples while racking up 26 points in the paint.

Although ECU trailed by 12 at the half and 16 late in the third quarter, the Tigers rallied with a 10-2 scoring run over two minutes, narrowing the lead to 43-35. Despite SNU extending their advantage back out to 14 points, ECU responded with a 10-3 scoring run, capped off by a three-pointer from Mackenzie Crusoe, bringing the score to within seven at 54-47. However, with 45 seconds left on the clock, the Tigers were unable to bridge the gap any further.

Mackenzie Crusoe led the Tigers with 19 points and eight rebounds while Jayden Weiberg and Kayley Alt each tallied six points. Kate Ogle matched Crusoe's rebound count, securing eight for the team.

The ECU women's basketball team will wrap up their home stand before the new year with a GAC match against Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday, December 9th at 5:30 pm.
