ADA, Okla. – In a Saturday night home GAC matchup, the East Central University women's basketball team suffered a tough defeat against Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Despite heading into halftime trailing by just one point at 28-27, the Tigers faced a stark turn of events in the second half, leading to a final score of 65-35 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.
The loss places the Tigers at 0-3 in GAC play while SWOSU maintains a perfect record in the league.
"We had poor execution offensively to get into offense after their press," Head Coach Heather Hurt said. "We had a huge amount of turnovers which doesn't help the offensive flow. Defensively we executed the game plan to give us a chance. Eight points in a half will never win you a game."
SWOSU shot 43.9% overall and 28% from beyond the arc while ECU struggled with 27.3% shooting from the field and 25% from three-point range. The decisive factor in the game came down to turnovers, where the Tigers suffered 25, allowing the Bulldogs to capitalize and score 33 points off turnovers.
The ECU women's basketball team will look to bounce back next week when they hit the road to take on Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday, December 16 at 5:30 pm in Shawnee.
