BETHANY, Okla. – Making the trek over to Bethany, Oklahoma on Saturday, the East Central University soccer team faced off against Southern Nazarene University in a GAC matchup with the Storm ultimately pulling off a late goal to secure the 1-0 victory over the Tigers.
With strong defensive efforts on both sides, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 for the majority of the contest.
The match was characterized by closely matched statistics, with ECU outshooting SNU by a narrow margin of 13-12, while the Storm had a slight advantage when it came to shots on goal, recording five compared to ECU's four.
ECU keeper
McKenna Leveling protected the Tiger goal for as long as she could, picking up four saves in the match and denying most of the Storm's chances at goal. But in the 83
rd minute, SNU found the back of the net to take a late 1-0 lead.
With little time to respond,
Madelyn Bird and
Abbie Morris tried to counter back with shots of their own to tie the game, but both were off target, leaving SNU to secure the conference victory.
The ECU soccer team will remain on the road as they head to Weatherford, Oklahoma Wednesday, Oct. 4 for a 3 pm kick-off against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
