Soccer Blanks Southwestern on Senior Day

ADA, Okla. - The East Central University soccer team celebrated Senior Day in style on Saturday at Tiger Soccer Field, clinching a commanding 2-0 shutout victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State UNiversity.

The win marks the Tigers' second consecutive triumph and elevates their GAC record to 4-4-1, keeping them firmly in the hunt within the conference.

The match began with SWOSU striking the first offensive efforts, but ECU quickly responded with an aggressive counterattack. After firing off eight shots, senior Kaylee Bruce broke through the Bulldog defense, skillfully finding the back of the net off the assist from Emily Cavazos at the 27:53 mark to give ECU a 1-0 lead.

As the first half progressed, the Tigers showcased impressive teamwork. A well executed sequence from Olivia Witte to Melieah Hinnant and then to Angelica Bochus resulted in Bochus heading the ball into the net, doubling ECU's lead to 2-0 just before halftime.

The second half was marked by relentless intensity from both sides, with SWOSU striving for an equalizer while ECU focused on preserving their advantage. The Tigers' defense stood firm, supported by Madison Mayhall, who made three crucial saves, including a vital stop in the 80th minute that put a stop to the Bulldogs' efforts to narrow the gap.

With a stellar performance, ECU secured the 2-0 victory, capping off a memorable day for fans and seniors Paige Jones, Olivia Witte, Kaylee Bruce, Abbie Morris, Amorette Ramos, Lillianne Rehfuss, Brooklyn Meisner, and Linea Anderson.

Although the soccer team honored their seniors on Saturday, ECU will play their final home match of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 4 pm when they face off against Oklahoma Baptist University.
