ADA, Okla. – In the final home game of the 2024 season, the East Central University soccer team turned in a timely defensive performance and exceptional goalkeeping to earn a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Oklahoma Baptist University on Wednesday afternoon.
With the scoreless tie, ECU improves to 4-4-2 in GAC play, placing them fourth in standings, while OBU remains in third.
On a cloudy and windy day at Tiger Soccer Field, both teams battled evenly throughout the match. Although the Tigers outshot the Bison 9-5 in the first half, OBU surged in the second, taking 14 shots compared to ECU's seven.
Abbie Morris led the Tigers' offensive efforts with five shots, three of which were on target, while
Kaylee Bruce took three shots, though none found the mark.
Reece Roberson nearly had the go-ahead goal in the 22
nd minute, but her high ball deflected off the hands of the Bison keeper, ultimately hitting the crossbar and staying out of the net.
Both goalies were put the test, with
Madison Mayhall achieving a career-high 12 saves, while OBU's keeper stopped seven shots, ensuring the scoreboard remained unchanged.
The ECU soccer team will hit the road for their final two games of the regular season, starting with a match against Southern Nazarene University on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 pm.
