Soccer Falls 3-1 in Road Match Against SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The East Central University soccer team traveled to Weatherford, Oklahoma for a GAC road contest against Southwestern Oklahoma State University, falling 3-1 on Wednesday.

The Tigers found themselves in an early deficit, trailing 2-0 heading into the second half. While ECU managed to stage a comeback against Southern Nazarene University last week after being in a similar position, they were unable to replicate that success this time.

At the 62:33 mark, Averi Ferguson scored the Tigers' lone goal off the cross from Paige Jones deflected off a Bulldog defender and into the path of Ferguson to cut the lead in half. Abbie Morris and Ximena Resendiz attempted to level the score, but they could not find the equalizer. With less than 10 minutes remaining in the match, SWOSU secured their victory by adding an insurance goal, finalizing the score at 3-1.

The Bulldogs dominated the match, outshooting the Tigers 22-11, including a 14-6 advantage in shots on goal.

Madison Mayhall stayed busy in goal, registering a career-high 11 saves despite conceding three goals.

The ECU soccer team will return to Ada for a home match against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 am.
