TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The East Central University soccer team concluded its non-conference slate with a road match against Northeastern State University, falling 2-1 to the RiverHawks on Friday night.
With the result, ECU wraps up the preseason with a record of 1-5 overall, while NSU improves to a 5-0 record.
The Tigers were looking to snap the RiverHawks' winning streak and gain momentum heading into Great American Conference play next week with another win under their belt, but a pair of goals by NSU turned the tide, erasing ECU's early lead and securing the victory for the RiverHawks.
ECU's lone goal came from
Kaylee Bruce, who netted her first goal of the 2024 season at the 30:57 mark to give the Tigers the first lead of the game. Notably, Bruce's goal was the only one scored against NSU this season, as all their previous victories have been shutouts.
The Tigers recorded eight shots, four of which were on target, while the RiverHawks fired off 19 shots, with 12 on goal. Supporting the ECU offense was
Brooklyn Meisner and
Amorette Ramos who recorded two shots and one on goal apiece.
ECU goalkeeper
Madison Mayhall registered a season-high 10 saves to help limit the damage from NSU.
The ECU soccer team will return home to Ada for their GAC opener against Harding University on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 2 pm at Tiger Soccer Field.
