Soccer Falls in 2-1 Heartbreaker to Ouachita Baptist

ADA, Okla. – The East Central University soccer team hosted their second consecutive home GAC matchup on Saturday, facing off against Ouachita Baptist University in an exciting battle of the Tigers. Despite taking an early lead, the purple Tigers rallied in the second half, scoring two goals, including one in the final minute, to steal the win at Tiger Soccer Field.

In the defeat, ECU moves to 0-1-1 in conference play.

ECU opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Ximena Resendiz struck the back of the net for her first goal of the season to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. However, Ouachita Baptist managed to get the equalizer early in the second half to level the score.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the waning moments, Ouachita Baptist capitalized on a foul by ECU, earning a free kick close to the box. The shot deflected off the hands of ECU's goalkeeper Madison Mayhall, ultimately finding the back of the net with just 42 seconds remaining to seal the victory for the purple Tigers.

The Tigers outshot the purple Tigers 18-10, with both teams registering 5 shots on goal. Kaylee Bruce led the offensive attack with seven shots, while Abbie Morris contributed two shots, including one on target. Madison Mayhall made three stops in goal.

The ECU soccer team will hit the road on Wednesday, Oct. 2, for a GAC match against Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee.
