ENID, Okla. – The East Central University women's soccer team battled for the full 90 minutes but came up just short in a 1–0 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State University on the road Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers continue their road slate on Wednesday, Oct. 29, when they travel to take on Oklahoma Baptist University at 6 p.m.
The Tigers opened the match applying early pressure and earning four consecutive corner kicks in the first three minutes. Despite the strong start, ECU was unable to capitalize on the early opportunities.
ECU kept the pressure on as
Reece Roberson fired a shot on goal in the 16th minute, followed by
Angelica Bochus, who forced another save near the 40-minute mark. Despite the sustained attack, neither attempt found the net. While the Rangers managed seven shots in the first half, the Tigers held strong defensively behind goalkeeper
Madison Mayhall, who made three key saves to keep the match level at 0–0 heading into halftime.
However, less than a minute into the second half, the Rangers broke through to take a 1–0 lead. ECU immediately looked to respond, with
Melieah Hinnant testing the opposing keeper just minutes later, but forced a strong save. The Tigers continued to create chances, as
Ximena Resendiz placed a pair of shots on target, but ECU couldn't find the equalizer before time expired.
NWOSU outshot ECU 16–7, holding a narrow 7–5 edge in shots on goal.
