Women’s Basketball Wins Third Straight Behind Burnett’s Career-High 23 Points Against OC

ADA, Okla. – The East Central University women's basketball team headed into Thanksgiving Break on a high note, powering past Oklahoma Christian University for a 79–56 non-conference victory Tuesday night in the Kerr Activities Center.

The win pushes the Tigers to 3–0 on the season as they prepare for their final non-conference matchup against Midwestern State University on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. in Wichita Falls.

The Tigers struggled to find their rhythm early, staying locked at 4–4 before the Eagles closed the first quarter on a run to seize a 19–11 advantage.

With OC carrying the early momentum, the Tigers responded in dominant fashion during the second frame. ECU outscored the Eagles 23–7, sparked by a go-ahead layup from Rylie Burnett that made it 24–23. From there, back-to-back buckets by Eva Fernandez, a jumper from Claira Dannefer, and a three-pointer from Burnett capped off a surge that sent ECU into halftime ahead 34–26.

The Eagles regrouped in the third quarter, keeping the game within reach, but ECU still edged them 18–17 to enter the fourth with a 52–43 advantage.

The Tigers took full control in the final period, erupting for 27 points while limiting OC to just 13. ECU caught fire from beyond the arc, draining four three-pointers, three of them by Jayden Weiberg, and stretching the lead to as many as 27 points before closing out the 79–56 win.

ECU posted its most efficient shooting performance of the season, finishing 50% from the field and 34.8% from three-point range.

Burnett led the charge with a career-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-7 from deep and a perfect 3-for-3 at the free-throw line. Fernandez followed with a season-high 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting and a flawless 5-for-5 from the stripe. Weiberg added 12 points, all from three-point range, while Dannefer rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points on a perfect 5-for-5 effort from the floor.
