Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The East Central University softball team made it a clean sweep at the George McCorkle Tournament hosted by Angelo State, with a 7-2 win over Drury and a 5-4 win over No. 17 Angelo State.

The Lady Tigers (5-3) were led by sophomore Autumn Suydam, with a .571 batting average, two runs, four hits and two RBIs on the day.  Junior Chelsea Patterson also hit .571 for the day, with four hits, one run and one RBI.

Junior Brianna Nunley and freshman Nicole Nordie each earned a win in the circle for ECU.  Nordie earned the win against Drury, with a complete game.  Nordie allowed just one hit and one run, with six strikeouts.  Nunley picked up the win against the Rambelles in two innings of action.  Nunley allowed zero hits and zero runs, while recording one strikeout.

"I saw a lot of heart from by team this weekend," said head coach Destini Anderson.  "It was good to see that kind of fight in them.  Even when we went down late in the game they still continued to battle and came out on top.  There are several girls who came through with big hits."

The Lady Tigers will now get ready for the Arkansas-Monticello Tournament in Bentonville, Ark., Feb. 14-16.  ECU will play five games in the tournament against Missouri Western State, Drury, Minnesota State-Mankato, Nebraska-Kearney and Oklahoma Panhandle State.

Game 1 – ECU 7, Drury 2
ECU was the first to strike, with three runs in the second inning.  Sophomore Amanda Edmundson started things off with a single down the left side.  She was sent to third on a double by Suydam to right center.  Sophomore Jordynn VanPelt was then walked to load the bases.

That left it open for Nordie to earn two RBIs with a single to left field.  The final run was sent across the plate when sophomore Leah Tigert grounded out to second.

Drury cut the lead to two, with a run in the top of third.

However, the Lady Tigers opened the lead back to six in the bottom of the fourth.  Junior. Kayci Snider hit a double to left center, with one out to start the rally.  Nordie was then walked, leaving two runners on base.  Tigert then came to the plate and hit a three-run home run to right field.

Patterson was walked and stole second.  Junior Samantha McGraw sent Patterson home with a single to center field for a 7-1 advantage.

The Panthers added one more run in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough and ECU earned the 7-2 win.

Game 2 – ECU 5, No. 17 Angelo State 4
The second game of the day was a back and forth battle for control of the scoreboard that started right off the bat in the first when ASU tallied one run.

ECU responded in the top of the second with two runs.  Sophomore Sydney Dow was the first batter of the inning and was sent to first when she was hit by a pitch.  Suydam sent Dow home with a triple to right center to tie the game at one.  VanPelt then grounded out to second, which allowed Suydam to score the second run for the 2-1 lead.

The Rambelles tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the third with a single run.

The Lady Tigers then took a 3-2 lead in top of the fourth on singles from Reeves, Marcum and Tigert, who earned the RBI.
The lead was short lived as ASU scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 3-4 advantage.

ECU wasn't done fighting and tied the game at four in the bottom of the sixth.  Reeves earned a walk and junior Lacey Williams was sent in to run.  Williams advanced to second on a sacrifice but by junior Kaile Marcum and to third when Tigert grounded out to short.  Patterson sent Williams home with a single to center field.

The Lady Tigers struck again in the top of the seventh.  Senior Gina Mengwasser led off with a double to right center and was advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Dow.  Suydam earned the game-winning RBI with a double down the left field line.

ASU had a good chance to score in the bottom of the seventh after their second batter was walked.  However, she was caught stealing and despite a second walk the third out was recorded on an unassisted play by Reeves at first.
